Anti-tuning feature in model-year 2010 Audis and possible other VW Group cars (by LoCal)

1.1.2010 - LoCal sent in this foreword and these links:

Audi has introduced in model-year 2010 (cars build starting from week 22/2009) a new engine control unit (ECU) the EDC17, which apparently contains a new anti-tuning feature which makes the car not start after applying a traditional tuning software via the diagnostics port. This has been reported on the Audi A4 B8 and A5 at least, but seems to be a larger trend in the VW Group cars as well.

I have collected some links below as a starting point on researching this. A lot of the tuning companies are implementing their solutions as we speak and some already have tuning software that is compatible with these new ECUs. However, currently their installation requires opening the ECU instead of just uploading the software via the car's diagnostics port.

Please see the links and any links behind them for more details and future reporting, I expect new solutions and answers coming in future weeks and months.
